Saffron contains antioxidant properties that can help in reducing the risk cardiovascular diseases. More so, some compounds found in saffron such as flavonoids, particularly lycopene can protect one from having heart diseases like heart attack. The Indian Journal of Medical Sciences revealed that in a study of 20 participants, among which 10 have heart diseases, that those patients with heart disease showed more improvement after saffron treatment.

Loss of Sight
According to a study at the University of Sydney Vision Center, saffron may actually be the treatment for loss of sight in older men and women. The study revealed patients showed significant improvement in their vision after taking saffron tablets for around 3 months. However, the effect disappeared once they stopped taking the tablets.
A review article in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, Berlin disclosed that saffron can be as effective as donepezil when used to treat Alzheimer disease.
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
According to an article in the British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, women suffering from PMS could get relief by taking saffron supplements. The study in the article revealed that among the 50 women who had PMS, 25 of them experienced significant relief from their condition after taking saffron 15mg supplement of saffron twice a day.
A lot of researches has revealed that saffron has both anti-tumor and anti-cancer properties. This is in part because of its crocin content. Studies has shown that saffron enter cancer cells and force them to commit suicide, thereby preventing further growth of the cancer cells.
